This is the story of C. C. Bradley who ate his first ice
cream soda when he was ten years old and who got his first
pair of shoes when he was 15!
Son of a God-fearing Tennessee share-cropper and a kindly
mother who was short on education but long on under-
standingBrad has helped to build the largest insurance
company in the Southwest and the fourth largest of its kind
in the world.
If he had accomplished this job over a period of 20 years,
I'd say Brad had done a great job. Actually he did it in less
than five years.
Sales manager of the Reserve Life Insurance company,
Bradley joined the firm in 1946 when the business had a
premium income of $300,000. In 1952, his sales force pro-
duced over 22 million dollars in income!
The other day at lunch, I asked Brad to tell me the most
important factor in this great success. And his answer sur-
prised me!
Brad gives the credit to his father and, indirectly, to
Andrew Carnegie. One of the things Brad's father gave his
son was a rule of life that can be a real success secret for all
of us.
Here it is:
"Any man can double his income, whatever it is, in three
years! If he will observe two rules: first, do only the things
you know you ought to do, an4 second, don't do the things
you know you ought not to do!"
Applying that rule built sales from $300,000 to 22 million
dollars in four years.
Next time you are faced with a decision, why don't you
apply the rule to yourself. I'll bet you'll make the right
choice.
